Dear friends in Christ,
On Thursday, June 11 a series of tornadoes touched down across northwest Indiana. While several areas experienced only minor damage, the city of Merrillville was hit quite significantly. Christ be praised that there were no fatalities, though there were a few injuries. Merrillville emergency operations are still in rescue mode at the moment. In terms of property damage, there were 200 structures that were damaged or destroyed, and there are many "opportunities for new firewood."
We have not put together a deployment at this time, as we still don't know what is needed in terms of a response. This announcement is simply to put our volunteers on alert that there may be deployment opportunities coming up over the next few weeks. Please keep an eye on LCMS-lert.org for those opportunities as they're posted and for future details.
May our almighty God--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit--bless and watch over all who are tending to their neighbors in their time of need.
Peace in Christ,
Rev. Josh Osbun, DDRC
