Description

Camp Zion is up and running!

Volunteers – This coming week there only 2 volunteers to do tear-out of flooded homes. This type of work is much needed. We can accommodate both day-only volunteers and multi-day volunteers.

Local Volunteers – If you live in the Ft. Myers area, or would like to join us for just the day and will not be staying overnight, select the “Local” deployments.

“Resident” Volunteers – If you will be working with us for more than one day and will be staying overnight, please select the “Zion” deployments. You may stay one night or as many as you wish.

Background ChecksAll volunteers are required to have a background check through LCMS-LERT.org before being accepted to work. Checks done through other organizations are not acceptable. If you have not had the background check done within the past 365 days, you will automatically be directed to the site before being allowed to sign up for a deployment.

Housing – We have 24 new cots just waiting for volunteers.

Showers – We have 3 clean showers with HOT water onsite.

Meals – Volunteers from Zion Lutheran Church are feeding us delicious breakfasts and dinners. We have food for lunches, snacks, and drinks. We will feed you!

Laundry – A washer and dryer are available for limited laundry. Local laundromats are open.

Work – We are focusing mainly on flood tear-out (muck-out, although the muck is dry). There is a limited amount of chainsaw work being done by other LERT chainsaw-trained volunteers. We have many homes that have been flooded and need to be cleaned out.

Tools & Equipment – We have been blessed with tools provided by LCMS Disaster Response, the Florida-Georgia District, and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Boca Raton, FL. We have pretty much everything you will need to work with. You are welcome to bring your own tools and equipment.

Training – Volunteers who have not gone through the basic LERT class are welcome to join us. We can provide basic LERT training to those who have not had the class. A short orientation for muck-out will be done onsite.

Supplies – Please check the Amazon Hurricane Ian Relief Wish List before sending or bringing any extra supplies. If it is not on the list, we have a very limited (no) need for it. The list may change daily. The best way to send us supplies is to use the Amazon Wish List for ordering, and it will automatically ship to Zion Lutheran Church – Hurricane Ian Relief, 7401 Winkler Rd, Ft. Myers, FL 33919. Here is the link for the Amazon Wish List.
