Camp Zion Continues Operations!
We have been getting volunteers in and have been able to complete several jobs. However, we still have more work needing attention. Thanks be to God!
The majority of work remaining is flood response in this area – tearing out drywall and cabinets, removing household belongings, and sanitation/mold mitigation. This is the work that volunteers are most needed for. There was relatively little tree damage in this area, and what damage did occur was minor and mostly taken care of. So, there is little need for chainsaw-only volunteers.
Only volunteers who have signed up on the LCMS-LERT system, and have passed a background check through that system, can work with us. Sorry, but the rules of the game have changed from the way we used to do things.
Tools and Equipment – Unless you have special tools or would like to use your personal tools and equipment, there is little need for you to load and bring tools or equipment. We have well-stocked trailers with sufficient tools and equipment for volunteers to use. Please do not send us your trailer. If you bring your own tools or equipment, bring whatever you feel you might use - but understand that we most likely already have it here.
Supplies – Zion Lutheran Church volunteers are helping meet community needs by providing a limited distribution of supplies (e.g., diapers, formula, hygiene products, food, water, etc.) They can use more supplies. Before you send anything here, please go to the Amazon LMCS Hurricane Ian Supplies wish list (Amazon LCMS Hurricane Ian Wish List). You may select items on the list and direct ship through Amazon, or you can find another way to get them here. Substitutes for listed items are acceptable (listed items are examples and is not a comprehensive list). Please do not send clothing!! Please do not send items not on the list unless you first call and determine the need (which changes almost daily).
