Next week, Feb. 13-17. We now have work lined up. If you are able to come to Selma next week please re-sign up on Selma, AL deployment, week 2/13-17
What’s Been Done: In the first 2 weeks of the Selma Tornado Response LERT teams, led by Lutheran Church Charities, assessed 112 work requests, completed 50 jobs, with 48 volunteers.
The Challenge: With 4 other large ministries in Selma doing chainsaw work, it has been challenging to acquire jobs. Plus, homeowners have been hard to reach in order to sign waivers.
Remaining Work to Be Done: There are over 100 homeowners that need help. However, we have been able to connect with only about 20 of those. At present we have 17 jobs ready to work. The final week of the first set of scheduled deployments is next week, Feb. 13 to Feb. 17. The work will be different next week.
- Almost all of the other chainsaw ministries have pulled out of Selma. Every day we are receiving a handful of jobs to assess. FEMA is now referring all chainsaw jobs to Trinity Lutheran Church in Selma.
- We currently have 9 Bobcat jobs, which are primarily equipment moving debris stacked by the LERT volunteers during the first two weeks. We need 2 sawyers to help with the amount of cutting needed during Bobcat jobs.
- We have 6 Aerial Lift Unit jobs. This is a more technical and precise work requiring roping and rigging. We need a 4-volunteer crew to help with Lift work.
- We have 2 ground crew jobs that would need 6 volunteers each.
After reluctantly having to postpone last week’s deployment teams due to a lack of signed waivers, we are now ready for the final week.
If you are able to deploy, please text me your name and estimated day and time of arrival in Selma at 205-296-3714.
