Help Shepherd's Hill at the Crossroads Camp get ready for summer camp season! This is a work opportunity located at the Camp at St. John, North Dakota. Come and help when you can. Jobs available for all abilities. 

The Camp will feed and house you in exchange for your work. Work will be available at the Camp from May 27 to May 31, 2026. 

This project will involve Spring cleanup of the camp. There will be outdoor and indoor cleanup to get ready for the Summer. The camp will provide materials and supplies as needed. Participants should bring their own personal items, such as gloves and eye protection.  

What will be provided:

Housing will be provided at the Camp.  Volunteers should bring their own bedding, either sleeping bags or blankets, and pillows.  You should also bring your own towels. 

LERT background checks are required for this event.

Meals will be provided each day.

This project will involve tree work and debris removal, activities common to storm-damage recovery efforts. 

IMPORTANT NOTES

LERT background checks are required for this Deployment because we are working in people's homes. The LCMS LERT system will take you to the Sterling Volunteers site to get your background check (no cost to all LERT volunteers) when you sign up for this LERT Deployment.

Following the training, participants are encouraged to sign up for the chainsaw deployment at the camp.  

 

Chainsaw training is offered to enhance the capabilities of LERT volunteers, enabling them to assist individuals who may lack the resources or skills to undertake this hazardous work. The goal of this training is to ensure that LERT members are properly prepared to serve safely and effectively.

Training topics include chainsaw safety, personal protective equipment (PPE), injury prevention, bucking, limbing, and felling trees, and safe debris removal.

Age Requirements:

Anyone age 16 or older may attend. Participants ages 16–17 may not operate a chainsaw but may train and serve as draggers.

Safety Gear & Equipment (required for hands-on participants):

Chainsaw safety PPE: helmet, eye protection, gloves, chaps, and steel-toed boots Steel-toed work boots are mandatory; tennis shoes, sandals, or flip-flops are not permitted Outdoor work clothing appropriate for the weather; shorts are prohibited Participants should bring their own chainsaw, bar oil, and fuel mix if available Some training chainsaws and PPE will be provided if needed
