Chainsaw Work Days May 3-7
Windstorms, Floods, and Kids...oh my!
Camp Okoboji is in need of tree help from this past year's windstorms, flooding, and safety for kid and family campers coming in for the summer. The camp graciously provided lodging and food for all of our volunteers during the flooding in NW Iowa this past summer - and we are so thankful!
Lodging and Meals:
Cabins: Camp
Okoboji will provide overnight accommodation in cabins for those wanting to
stay. Please provide your own bedding, towels, and toiletries.
RV sites: Volunteers may bring their own RV or camper to use at
Gull Point State Park (approx ½ mile from Camp), please make reservations on
your own.
Please specify accommodation needed on registration form and call Camp Okoboji directly (712-337-3325) to make your reservation – be clear that you are with LERT. *if you want to work the 3rd, please let Camp know what time you will be arriving on the 2nd
Meals:
Camp Okoboji will provide all three meals on each work day.
Downtime: Volunteers are able to use any camp equipment while staying. This includes grills, bikes, kayaks/canoes (depending on temp/wind), recreational equipment, fire pits, etc... https://www.campokoboji.org/
Volunteers will need to bring the following:
You must be a qualified LERT chainsaw operator to operate a chainsaw or work as a puller around chainsaw work.
- Chainsaw, bar oil, gas, extra chains and bar
- Chaps and other Personal Protection Gear (hard hat, heavy work gloves, eye & ear protection, work boots)
- Outdoor work clothes and work boots appropriate for the weather at that time. (It is always wise to dress in layers)
- possibly Bug Spray
- Camp Okoboji and the Iowa West District will have water & coffee available. Bring your own Gatorade or other drinks.
If someone you know has done LERT basic training and wants to get trained on chainsaw/dragger work, we do have a separate event happening May 2nd-3rd. Please have them sign up through the system. Thanks!
We look forward to learning and serving together at Camp Okoboji!
