LERT Chainsaw class, Kansas District Retreat Center, 10/15-16/2021

Participants will complete class instruction and field work toward qualification for basic chainsaw operation and safety. Material used is the LCMS Disaster Response approved curriculum.

• Registration Fee: $25 for Chainsaw class (bring the day of class)

• Facilitators: Brian Mead & Micah Pobanz (Advanced Qualified Chainsaw Trainers-KS District LCMS).
• Class Limit: 10 participants
• Registration Deadline: October 8, 2021
• Housing Fee: $25 for those wishing to stay overnight at the Kansas District Retreat Center. Please contact Donna Williams (ksddrc@gmail.com) if you wish to reserve a room. Rooms are limited and will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis.

Additional housing is available on-site: camping is available at Herington Lake adjacent to the Retreat Center and rooms can be reserved at the Herington Inn. RV HOOKUPS AT THE RETREAT CENTER ARE NOT AVAILABLE AT THIS TIME.

Requirements:

• Participants must have already completed the Basic LERT training course. (Please bring your ID if you have it).
• Participants must be 18 years of age or older.
• Participants are asked to bring their own PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) if they have it. There will be a few items available to those who may not have everything.
• Participants are asked to bring their personal chainsaws, fuel, bar oil and an extra chain. Again, there may be a couple available to borrow, but we encourage you to bring your own so that you can familiarize yourself with the operation of the chainsaw you will most likely be using on a regular basis.
• Participants will be required to sign Liability Waivers.

Personal Protection Equipment:

• Helmet/hard hat with visor
• Gloves
• Safety Glasses
• Ear Protection
• Chaps
• Heavy duty shoes: preferably boots with steel toes (no tennis shoes or sandals).

Schedule:

Friday, Oct. 15^th          5:30: Early check-in. Please arrive by 6:30pm to complete paperwork before the class starts.   

                                  7pm: Chainsaw Class Session #1

Saturday, Oct. 16^th      9am: Chainsaw Class Session #2

                                 11am-3pm: Chainsaw Field Work Session (with lunch break)

                                  Noon: Lunch (provided)
