LERT Chainsaw and debris removal Volunteers needed! We are asking for qualified LERT chainsaw Operators in assisting with debris removal to help with the removal of damaged trees in Green County, MO. We also need volunteers to drag limbs and trunk pieces to a designated spot at each site.
We will welcome volunteers for all days or even one day if possible. There is limited housing available for 15 volunteers in the Lutheran Student Center. Please let Kris Schuldt know if you would like to stay in the student center of if you will be driving back and forth each day. Volunteers would need to provide their own bedding, cots or air mattresses and wash cloths and towels. There are also several hotels in Springfield. All meals, water and Gatorade will be provided by members of 5 local Lutheran churches.
I am requesting 4 volunteer assessors, 4 to 5 work group team leads, and a back up site supervisor. Please contact Kris Schuldt if you can perform any of these extra volunteer positions.
All volunteers are required by Green County to wear a yellow LERT shirt or vest. For all non chainsaw qualified volunteers that will be dragging limbs and debris it is required to wear sturdy boots, leather work gloves and bring a hard hat and hearing protection if you are working not next to but near running chainsaws.
At this time, LERT volunteers are asked to be self-sufficient, in that they provide their own chainsaw equipment and PPE - unless otherwise determined in consultation with the Site Coordinator. Each chainsaw team will also need to bring an appropriate first aid kit and provide tourniquets for each operator.
Water and Gatorade will be provided.
All LERT volunteers are requested to report at the Lutheran Student Center each morning at 7:30am.
Only registered LERT volunteers will be allowed to participate.
If you have any questions, please contact Kris Schuldt 314-971-5747.
