LERT volunteers are needed to conduct multiple tasks at Saxon Lutheran Memorial. Tasks will include: removing several damaged trees and hanging limbs, replacing damaged drywall, replacing broken windows, replacing deteriorated wooden handrails and steps, power washing wood decks, scraping old paint on outside walls, replacing base boards in the Confirmation house, general spring cleaning in several old cabins, inventorying-cataloging-and packing museum items in plastic boxes, moving a large pile of lumber, placing temporary aluminum sheets over holes in the log cabin walls, constructing 4 shed walls and possibly chinking log walls of an old smoke house. All construction material will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own hand tools and power tools. And we are in the process of arranging various mentors for some of the above skilled work.
Housing will be provided in Trinity School's gym with showers, bathrooms and AC. Volunteers will need to bring their own cots and bedding. There are also several RV hookup sites available and there are several B&B's nearby.
Background checks are required for this deployment.
All meals will be provided by two sisters from a local congregation.
Water and Gatorade will be provided.
All volunteers are requested to wear yellow LERT vests or shirts daily. And to bring work gloves, sturdy shoes and to dress for the weather.
All chainsaw operators are required to wear full and appropriate PPE.
Although the deployment is for 5 days, we will welcome any volunteer that would like to work all or just a day or two.
