This is a basic LCMS LERT chainsaw safety and handling class with disaster response ministry cleanup in mind. Please note that you have to have completed the LCMS Basic LERT class prior to this chainsaw class. We are offering a basic LERT class in Slidell on May 3rd.
Do you have a desire to know more about a chainsaw? Do you want to go out on deployments cleaning up damaged and fallen trees from a storm? Do you want to learn how to fell a tree?
The LCMS and the Lutheran Early Response Team [LERT], have put this class together to teach you the safe and logical ways to assist your neighbors in need after a disaster.
Cost: 50.00 dollars. Checks, cash or credit cards will be accepted on the first day of the training event.
Time frame:
Friday May 16th from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. We will have four hours in a classroom. Dinner will be provided.
Saturday May 17th 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. We have allotted eight hours of time in the field. Snacks and lunch will be provided in the field.

Basic chainsaw usage, safety and handling
Proper personal protective equipment, PPE
Felling a tree
Delimbing and bucking a tree
What should a student bring to class?
Chainsaw, gas, oil, and any tools or equipment related to chainsaws and felling trees that you currently own.
All of your PPE, (which is required for all deployments) hard hat, ear protection, eye protection, work gloves, chainsaw protective pants or chaps and work boots with steel toes. Everyone must have all of the PPE before they can operate a chainsaw. A small number of hard hats, chaps and saws will be available during the class. The work boots with steel toes is mandatory to attend this class.
