An intermediate first aid training class will be presented to all LERT volunteers. In addition to some basic first aid training, this class will include hands-on training in using an AED, portable oxygen bottle, and tourniquets. It will also include CPR and Stop the Bleed training.

The instructors for this class are members of SCCAD. (St. Charles County Ambulance District)

The class will take place in the Fellowship Hall of Immanuel Lutheran Church from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

No cost for this class.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend the training session. However, only LCMS members who are 14 years or older will receive a certificate of participation, volunteer ID card, and T-shirt after the training is complete. Your LERT trainers will distribute all the LERT materials during and after the class.  Cost is $20 per person (includes all materials and refreshments).  Pay by cash or check at the training.

Minnesota North District is sponsoring a Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) BASIC CHAINSAW TRAINING on May 1 & 2, 2026.  This training is intended to increase LERT volunteers’ skills, knowledge and safety in chainsaw operation so they can provide a critical service to those who do not have the skills or means to perform this dangerous work following a disaster.  The classroom training will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Perham, MN, on May 1, 2026, from 5:30 pm - 8:30 pm. Directions to the training site will be provided to registrants before the day of training. Participants should arrive at the site by 5:00 p.m. to register.  Class will begin promptly at 5:30 pm and conclude between 8:00 and 8:30 pm.  The field training will be held at Lutheran Island Camp, Henning, MN, on May 2 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm.  Your LERT Trainer will distribute all material for and after the class.

You must have previously completed the LERT Basic Training Class to participate in this class.  

During the training, participants will learn:

Safe operation of a chainsaw Personal protective equipment (PPE) Injury prevention How to buck and limb storm damaged trees How to properly clear debris in safe and beneficial manner and Proper saw maintenance.

This Local LERT Event will be held on Saturday, May 30. Lutheran Servants for Christ and Lutheran Church Charities are partnering with Spartanburg Emergency Operations Center to assist families still recovering from Hurricane Helene. Participants will be assisting community members as they travel through the Market Place. Lunch will be provided, housing is not provided. The Market Place will be open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. 

Ability to listen to guests, encourage, pray with them, and help carry items are the main requirements. Already 250 families have signed up to participate.

This Local LERT Event will be held on Saturday, May 30. Lutheran Servants for Christ and Lutheran Church Charities are partnering with Spartanburg Emergency Operations Center to assist families still recovering from Hurricane Helene. As a part of the Spring Cleanup Day at Lutheran Island Camp. This deployment consists of two types of volunteers.

Basic LERT Trained Volunteers

Will participate in the general Spring cleanup on the island.Arrive at the site by 8:00 am to sign in.  Deployment will begin at 8:30 am and conclude between 4:00 and 5:00 pmLunch, snacks and water will be provided.

LERT Trained Chainsaw Operators

Chainsaw Operators must have completed Basic LERT Chainsaw Training. 

Chainsaw Operators should bring the following:

Chainsaw, bar oil, gas/oil or synthetic fuel mix, Chaps and other Personal Protective Equipment (helmet, eye protection, ear protectors, gloves, and steel-toe boots). Participants must wear steel-toed boots. Outdoor work clothes and boots appropriate for the weather at the time.

Work will consist of tree, branch and debris removal.  Wood will be blocked and stacked for later use. Branches and debris will be stacked for removal.

Arrive at the site by 8:00 am to sign in.  Deployment will begin at 8:30 am and conclude between 4:00 and 5:00 pm

Lunch, snacks and water will be provided.

As a part of the Spring Cleanup Day at Lutheran Island Camp. This deployment consists of two types of volunteers.

Basic LERT Trained Volunteers

Will participate in the general Spring cleanup on the island.Arrive at the site by 8:00 am to sign in.  Deployment will begin at 8:30 am and conclude between 4:00 and 5:00 pmLunch, snacks and water will be provided.

LERT Trained Chainsaw Operators

Chainsaw Operators must have completed Basic LERT Chainsaw Training. 

Chainsaw Operators should bring the following:

Chainsaw, bar oil, gas/oil or synthetic fuel mix, Chaps and other Personal Protective Equipment (helmet, eye protection, ear protectors, gloves, and steel-toe boots). Participants must wear steel-toed boots. Outdoor work clothes and boots appropriate for the weather at the time.

Work will consist of tree, branch and debris removal.  Wood will be blocked and stacked for later use. Branches and debris will be stacked for removal.

Arrive at the site by 8:00 am to sign in.  Deployment will begin at 8:30 am and conclude between 4:00 and 5:00 pm

Lunch, snacks and water will be provided.

LERT volunteers are needed to rehab an existing bathroom into an ADA compliant bathroom. Work will include, demolition and removal, construction of short new walls, insulation and drywall installation, construction of a new ADA shower, replacing the tile floor, painting the walls and adding new siding where the window was.

Plumbing and Electrical work will be conducted by professionals.

All volunteers are encouraged to wear yellow LERT shirts or vests. Most of the tools necessary to conduct this work will be provided. If a volunteer wants to bring their own tools, that is ok. Sturdy work boots and work gloves are required.

Lunch, water and Gatorade will be provided.

We will meet at the home of the work instead of the listed church. Site supervisor will provide the address to the volunteers that sign up. It is located in St. Charles County.  

It is anticipated that work days will be flexible based on the plumber and electrician schedules as well as the homeowner. Please keep aware of the next day schedule by communicating with the site supervisor or by checking the web page.

Volunteer: LERT Background Check - for undergoing the background check process ONLY

This is setup for the sole purpose of providing an avenue for LERT volunteers to procure (or renew) your LERT background check in preparation for future deployments.


Please complete this process only if you intend to volunteer for an upcoming LERT deployment.

If you would like to procure your LERT background check (or need to renew an expired LERT background check) so that you are prepared to respond to future LERT Deployments, please use this event to do so.

As you try to sign up for this event, you will be redirected to the Sterling Volunteers site to enter your information. LCMS Disaster Training covers the cost of LERT background checks. It is made available to you at no cost.

NOTE: there is no physical event connected with this signup. The sole purpose is provide an avenue for you to obtain (or renew) your background check before a future LERT Deployment. You do not need to sign up for this event after your background check is complete.

Please note that the background check is good for one (1) year and must be renewed annually if you wish to keep current.

LERT Background Checks are required for all LERT Deployments in which the following activities/conditions are taking place:

Those who work with youth (also following all LERT Youth Guidelines) Those working in disaster victims' homes Those engaged in the recovery of disaster victims' personal property Those who are staying overnight in an LCMS LERT volunteer housing camp
