What We Do

The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod’s Disaster Response ministry responds to immediate and long-term needs following natural and man-made disasters.  Working through LCMS districts and congregations, LCMS Disaster Response builds capacity to respond to various needs with Christian care.   The LERT program is part of a Synod-wide training, resourcing and credentialing program for LCMS volunteers who wish to respond to disasters around the country.  These services in turn support the local congregations and the communities in which they serve.

The Nebraska Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) program trains volunteers to serve their congregations and communities in the event of these various disasters.   Training is provided to individuals and team members to identify opportunities for service, both after disasters and in everyday life, preparing them for efficient, effective and safe service to those impacted.  They also learn the importance of Christian witness in showing mercy in the aftermath of disasters and personal hardships.  Our volunteers serve as the hands and feet of Jesus in disaster response work.

Our Mission is: Mercy in Action; Our Vision is: to be the hands and feet of Jesus in serving those impacted by disasters or personal hardship, and to speak Jesus’ words of compassion, love and hope to those who are hurting.

Additional information and opportunities to enlist for training and/or volunteer disaster response services, are found on this website.
