Description

UPDATE: 5/24/24 Harvey County Emergency Management and the County Appraisers office reports that the majority of the cleanup in Harvey County has been completed. If it is determined that long term recovery is needed, they will notify us. Thank you for your willingness to respond to this request.

It was a rough night for parts of Kansas. According to Harvey County Emergency Management, both Burrton and Halstead have sustained significant damage due to a confirmed tornado and straight-line winds. Newton is included in the assessments and City crews; utilities and first responders have been working throughout the night to open roads and bring utilities back online to all residents. From what I can glean, there is structural damage as well as trees and power lines down. Schools are closed due to damage to school buildings. I will be traveling to the affected areas to do an initial assessment and meeting with Harvey County Emergency Management about a way forward. My understanding is that Reno County also sustained damage, so I’ll reach out to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church as well.

Please consider how you might assist in the cleanup in these areas. If you have any questions, please contact me.
