Description

Hurricane Helene passed through Florida and Georgia late Thursday night and Friday, leaving a large amount of damage behind. This was the 3rd hurricane to strike this area in 13 months, 2 being a Category 4.

FLGA District and FGLER have made contact with many of our churches in the affected areas. All are safe, thanks be to God who watch over us!

Several areas have been affected and may have a response set up:

  • St. Petersburg, FL north up to Lecanto: heavy storm surge has caused substantial coastal and inland flooding. Assistance with muck-out has been requested, but could not be assessed yet due to flooding.
  • Valdosta, GA: The area was hit hard again. Assessment could not be done yet, as the there was still substantial blockage and emergency work being done.
  • Augusta, GA: There was tree damage at the LCMS church and several members. Assessment will be done on Monday.
  • Atlanta, GA area: Many trees down, but no requests for assistance.

Additionally, there was substantial flooding and tree damage in South Carolina, and the Southeastern District is still assessing it.

AT THIS TIME NO RESPONSES ARE SET. PLEASE DO NOT SELF-DEPLOY OR CONTACT ANY CHURCH IN THESE AREAS.

When more details about any deployment(s) are decided we will post the information here and on social media.
