Description

September is National Preparedness Month in the US. Each September, an effort is made across the country to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies. The 2021 theme is “Prepare to Protect. Preparing for disasters is protecting everyone you love.

You can get more information from the FEMA website on what they suggest for activities: National Preparedness Month | Ready.gov

We are encouraging our LERT volunteers to take some time in September to gather their teams and talk about preparedness in your homes, your congregations, and your communities.

  • Make a disaster plan for your home.
  • Meet with your congregation leaders and make a disaster plan for your church (see your LERT manual for ideas).
  • Host a LERT activity to make survival kits to hand out in the event of a disaster (LCMS Disaster Response will give you the bags!). Here's a link to the survival kit flyer: LCMS Disaster Response: Survival Kit Guide
  • Talk to your youth about the importance of being prepared and how they can help with the effort at home and at church.

  • Remember to Fan your District you get the latest news about Trainings and Deployments.

Give your District Disaster Response Coordinator a call if you want to talk more about disaster response efforts in your LCMS District!
