Description

First, we thank you for your prayers and concern for those who have been impacted by Hurricane Ian. We thank the Lord for your support and financial gifts that are enabling us to assist the congregations and workers who have been impacted! In addition, we are working with LCMS Disaster Response to set up a Camp that will coordinate and oversee volunteer teams using the facilities at Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Myers

At this point, we are aware of at least a half-dozen church workers whose homes were flooded, and more church workers have been displaced or experienced significant damage to their homes.

We also have at least four churches with varying levels of wind and water damage, but we praise God that none were impacted by the tidal surge! Numerous churches in southwest Florida are dealing with downed trees and debris. Many of our churches and schools are still without electricity or safe drinking water and may be for some time. Yet, they are all rejoicing that the Light of the World still shines forth, and no injuries or deaths are known of within the congregations.

Please continue to pray for the Pastors, called workers, staff, congregations, and schools. Also, please keep in prayer these communities that are in shock, grieving, and just beginning to grasp what they have been through.

Volunteers - We should be able to start receiving volunteers at Camp Zion in Ft. Myers on Sunday, October 9, for work during the week. We will post the deployment here shortly.

Sign up for work shifts at the Hurricane Ian page on LCMS LERT. If you don't have a current LERT background check the system will send you to complete that before you can sign up.

We are exploring opening camps at one or two other location on the west coast, but do not have those arrangements made yet.

In addition, you can continue to help those in need by donating on the Florida-Georgia District website.
