Description

The operation of a chainsaw can be dangerous and cause severe or life-threatening injury. In order to help keep our volunteers safe, the Florida-Georgia District will be following the listed protocols at all camps and work sites.

General:

  • Only those age 18 or older will be allowed to operate or work near a running chainsaw.
  • To operate a chainsaw, you must have successfully completed the LCMS Disaster Response LERT Chainsaw Safety class, or its equivalent.
  • Anyone operating, or working near a running chainsaw, must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), which includes:
    • Helmet – chainsaw or hardhat
    • Hearing protection – earmuffs (attached to the helmet is ideal) or ear plugs
    • Eye protection – safety glasses (marked with “Z87”)
    • Leg protection – chainsaw chaps or pants
    • Steel toed boots – plain-, composite-, or open toed shoes, or tennis shoes are not allowed
    • Gloves – leather, with or without cut protection

Chainsaw training – The LCMS LERT Chainsaw Safety class may be available on an as-needed basis.

Equipment:

  • If you have personal or team chainsaws, equipment, and/or PPE please bring it along.
  • Electric chainsaws are generally not allowed; however, if you have an electric saw and wish to use it, please contact us.
  • Bring any saw maintenance items (e.g., chains, bars, files, filters, etc.) you may need; we will not supply them.
  • A limited amount of chainsaws, equipment, and PPE may be available (but don’t rely on it being there for you).
  • Please make sure that all personal or team chainsaws, equipment, and PPE is marked so others know it belongs to you.

If you have any questions, please contact us.
