A couple of us from St. Luke's Oviedo are heading down to Fort Myers next week to help out with the LCMS disaster response. Gary, Bill and Doug were down last week and the amount of work is huge. If there is any chance you could take a couple days or the whole week to work with us, it would be appreciated.
Here's the scoop:
- Zion Lutheran Church is set up with cots, showers, food, etc to house workers. (If you have a camper or motorhome, there is room for a few.)
- Breakfast is served at 7 and crews are generally on-site by 8. Some jobs take an hour or two, some are multiple days. Lunch is usually packed lunch and a hot meal is served at the end of the day.
- From what we heard from crew 1, most of the work is tree cutting and stacking. There are some homes that still need cleaned out from water damage too.
Please prayerfully consider joining us next week. We will leave Sunday, later afternoon and come home Friday night. If you can't go all week, consider M-T or Th-Fr and that's okay too! If next week doesn't work, you can look at other options later in November or December.
To sign up, just go to LCMS-LERT.org and Sign Up. Once you do, you will need to complete a background check for $20. All the options are listed under Trainings and Deployments. We are signed up for 11/6 - 11/12.
This is a great opportunity to share your faith through some hard work. If it doesn't work out now, please keep it in mind for future opportunities.
