Description

Trinity Lutheran, Tryon NC experienced significance flooding during Hurricane Helene. Muck-out and debris removal is mostly finished. They are now ready to restore/rebuild.

In this phase of rebuild, work will consist of:

* Repairing/replacing speaker and microphone wiring in the crawlspace;

* Spraying mold abatement (e.g. "Shock Wave" or similar product) on floor joists and bottom of subfloor (crawlspace);

* Insulating the bottom of the subfloor (crawlspace);

* Pouring two concrete pads for dehumidifiers (crawlspace);

* Running 120v wiring to dehumidifiers (crawlspace);

* Removing a damaged deck and preparing area for future replacement (outside)

* Removing mud/sand/gravel between two buildings (outside)

* Replacing termite-damaged studs (inside)

* Insulating exterior walls, installing wallboard, taping, mudding and painting wallboard (inside)

* Preparing (scraping/sanding/leveling) subfloor to receive new flooring (inside);

* Trim and paint (inside).

* There may be an opportunity to chunk and remove some downed trees in the yard of a congregation member and one of the neighbors. If you are LCMS chainsaw trained, please bring a saw and proper protective gear. 


Trinity Lutheran has heat, power, water, and working bathrooms. Showers are available in a newly purchased Lutheran Servants for Christ shower trailer. Bring toiletries, towels, and shower shoes. 


Sleeping is provided in the facility on cots. There are separate areas for males and females. Bring sleeping bag and sleeping (camp) pad or mattress pad and bedding.


Some tools will be provided by Lutheran Servants for Christ. Based on the work described above, if volunteers have suitable tools, they will be a welcome addition--tape measure, straight-edge, square, box knife, hammer, battery-powered driver with bits for wallboard screws are examples. Full Tyvek suits and respirators will be provided for certain crawlspace activities. Bring personal protective equipment (PPE) (masks, ear protection, eye protection, etc.). 


Crawlspace can get cold, so bring warm clothes, work gloves, and well insulated boots.


In the morning, temps can fall below freezing. Long-range forecast indicates temps will be between the low-30s to the mid-60s.
