Basic Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) training will take place on Saturday, May 31 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at First Lutheran Camp, 1621 Lee Pike, Soddy-Daisy, TN 37379. There may be an opportunity for a service project at the camp after the class.
Participants will be introduced to the LCMS Disaster Response/ LERT program, learn the basic nature of disasters, the opportunities to respond to personal needs of the victims and how Lutherans can support families, congregations and their communities as the hands and feet of Jesus.
In the aftermath of a disaster, it's crucial to stay focused on the task at hand which is the person who has sustained a tremendous loss of life, home, vehicles, and loss of hope; LERT training will have you focused on MERCY. The training will equip you to be an effective volunteer.
Basic LERT training is required for all volunteers to respond to LERT deployments and is a prerequisite for signing up for future LERT specialized trainings, such as the LERT Basic Chainsaw Training. The class size - 50; lunch will be provided; class fee - $20.00 (covers cost of Training Manual, ID card, and T-shirt). Cash in the appropriate amount and checks made payable to First Lutheran Church (memo line - LERT training) will be accepted.
