Description

QUINDARO AND SURROUNDING AREA, KANSAS CITY, KS

 

What: Tree damage and debris cleanup
Where: Inner City, Kansas City, KS (Quindaro District & surrounding area)
When: Thursday, August 27 through Wednesday, September 2, 2026. Work will continue through Sept. 2nd or as long as we have work orders to complete.
Who: Chainsaw operators and volunteers (draggers and pullers).

Requirements:  LERT volunteers and draggers must have completed LERT Basic training. Pullers and chainsaw operators must have completed both LERT Basic training and LERT Basic Chainsaw Training and Safety. YOUTH 14+ MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT, PREFERABLY A PARENT, WHO HAS COMPLETED LERT BASIC TRAINING.


Background checks are required for this deployment. You will be prompted to complete the Background check when you register. LCMS Disaster Response covers the cost of your Background check.


Host: Immanuel Lutheran Church, 3232 Metropolitan Ave, KC, KS.

             Immanuel Community Outreach Association (ICOA)

Volunteers will meet at 9 am for safety briefings and assignments. If you plan to stay overnight on the Immanuel campus, plan to bring your own bedding, towels and personal items. Space is limited, so please let us know if you need housing. Meals will be available.


Please prepare to provide secure lockup for your tools and equipment.

 

Scope:

Mostly Tree work, chainsaw, pulling and dragging. Since this is inner city, homes are somewhat close together, so we will have no option other than to drag debris and cuttings to the curb. We will assign jobs to teams of at least 4 people.  

Protection Equipment & Gear (PPE):

Sturdy shoes with a good, solid sole & socks - no sandals, flip-flops, Hey Dudes or sneakers.

·        Long pants

·        Long-sleeved shirt (recommended)

·        Ball cap or hard hat (preferred-we have a few to lend to volunteers)

·        Steel-toed boots for chainsaw operators

·        Safety glasses/eye protection

·        Sturdy work gloves

·        Rain gear (recommended)

·        Water bottle

·        Personal snacks for the worksite

·        Trash bags (for your own trash)

·        If you, your group, or your team has a first aid kit, bring it with you.


*Any volunteers who show up without registering will be considered spontaneous and will not be permitted to join a work team until volunteer registration is completed
