The FLGA District, in partnership with the Mercy in Action based out of Messiah Lutheran in Tampa, FL will provide chainsaw training. Following a disaster, people with chainsaw skills are in high demand. That is why the District wants to equip Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) members the ability to provide this service safely and efficiently.
During the training, you will learn the following:
- safe operation of a chainsaw
- personal protective equipment (PPE)
- injury prevention
- physics of cutting trees
- how to buck and limb fallen trees
- how to clear debris in a safe and beneficial manner
The chainsaw training serves to increase our dedicated volunteers’ capabilities and give them added capacity to extend mercy to those who haven’t the means or skills to perform this dangerous work in their communities.
The morning session is classroom; all disaster response volunteers are invited to attend. To be authorized to use a chainsaw on aLERT disaster response as aLERT Chainsaw Operator, volunteers must also attend the afternoon "hands-on" session. Afternoon participants should bring (if they have) chainsaw PPE and a properly operating chainsaw. Shorts, tennis shoes, or sandals/flip-flops are not allowed in the afternoon. Participants should wear work boots with steel toed shoes.
Training Costs: Morning classroom only (will not be authorized as an Operator) - $15. Morning and Afternoon (Operator) - $35.
