A Basic Lutheran Early Response Team (LERT) training class will be held at Divine Shepherd Lutheran at 7308 Wedgewood Dr, Black Hawk, SD 57718 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm Monday and Tuesday nights May 22-23, 2023.
Attendance at both nights is required to complete the course and receive your LERT certificate.
In the Basic LERT training class participants be introduced to the nature of responding to Disasters which impact the church and community in which they happen. Participants will come to see their work as the hands and feet of God bring His mercy to these people in a time of tragedy for them, and how Lutherans can support families, congregations, and communities during these times.
This training will help us remember to stay focused on the one thing most important and what is at the center of our LERT Volunteer training is one thing: MERCY! Christ's mercy is the basis for everything we say and do. This trainline event will equip you to be an effective volunteer should a disaster strike your community. Topics which will be covered during the course:
1. Theological rational for LCMS Disaster Response
2. Goals for Disaster Response
3. Christian Care in times of Disaster
4. The LERT Program and how it works with other responders
5. Introduction to Disaster Response
6. Service Opportunities after a Disaster and Safety Protocols
Snacks and Refreshments will be provided. The registration fee of $35 per person helps cover the cost of manuals, ID Badge, trainer expenses and a T-shirt. Training material will be distributed on day of training and after the training by your LERT Trainer.
Please make checks payable to the SD District, LCMS and put on the MEMO line Disaster Response LERT and bring it with you the day of training.
