Update 8/13/24
At this point we are:
- measuring spaces for drywall and insulation
- delivering supplies to homes
- moving drywall (ability needed to carry 25 lbs - partner carry, single sheet)
Trained LERT volunteers to work in Spencer IA -
There will be some:
- muck & gut (possibly)
- power washing
- sanitizing work (product provided)
also in transition to
- dry wall work (will have mentors on site if you are willing to learn, or if you're willing to mentor please let us know)
Sleeping cabins, showers, and laundry will be provided at Camp Okoboji (approx 15 miles from Spencer) - but you will need to bring bedding and towels. Breakfast and supper will be provided at Camp, along with lunch provided at/by First English Lutheran in Spencer. Plenty of work opportunity to go around (over 70 homes, 1 church basement, and 2 pastor's basements currently on our work list).
Most homes that can be occupied have electricity and clean, running water.
We will try to send updates in a timely fashion, but please check back often as the information may change.
Workdays will be Monday through Saturday, with Sunday as rest days. Please sign up for daily shifts to help us plan for meals and sleeping arrangements.
NOTE: LERT background checks are required for this deployment. The LCMS LERT system will send you to the background check site as part of the deployment signup process.
